Always Ensure You Get Paid On Time

Research and common sense tells us that being the victim of a crime is extremely stressful. So it is perhaps no wonder that most business owners themselves are stressed, since they are regularly the victims of a particularly nasty type of crime. A crime committed on a daily basis by their very own customers. The crime of not paying the money which they owe.
Now you’re probably thinking, ‘surely that isn’t really much a crime’, and if so, my question to you is why not? After all, consider what would happen if someone walked out of a shop with a TV they hadn’t paid for, the police would be involved as it would be an act of theft, regardless of whether the person taking the TV turned around to shout “I’ll pay you next week”, its still stealing. Likewise, if a customer takes your product or service and then continues to put off paying for it, they have in effect stolen from you.
Now, it may be a little blunt to go straight to any customers with outstanding bills and accuse them of being thieves straight away – sometimes the cheque really does get lost in the post! – but the fact of the matter is, customers who don’t pay on time are a serious threat to the survival of your business, lets face it, you don’t work for free, and you need that money to keep yourselves going!
